TOLEDO (WTVG) – Hockey is back in T-Town and fans are excited. The Toledo Walleye dropped the puck for their season home opener Saturday against the Brampton Beast.
It was a busy day for downtown Toledo and Walleye fans say they’ve been waiting all summer for the very moment.
Hundreds packed the Huntington Center welcoming the Walleye to their 8th season.
Hockey die-hard fans say they are back in their element.
“We’ve been waiting a long time for the summer to get over with so we can get back here,” said Cheryl Morelli, a season ticket holder.
Long before the puck dropped, fans packed area pubs and restaurants like Frickers.
Families enjoyed the pregame tailgate party at Hensville Park, complete with kid activities, food and entertainment.
Walleye officials hope the new menu items and on-going promotions keep the fans happy.
“It’s going to carry on like that throughout the winter and it’s just going to be wonderful activities all year round,” said Andi Roman, Communications Director for the Toledo Walleye. “You know, the fans have been so supportive and we’re ready to get hockey started again.”
Roman adds that there will be plenty of themed game nights.
