If knowing is half the battle, a good piece of the remainder is just showing up.
Agency, a tidy exhibition downtown with six local artists, embodies exactly this.
All the featuring artists are women, but that’s entirely because they simply got to know each other. And showed up.
More precisely, they knew of each other, and kept showing up to know each other better.
“I wanted someone to critique with, and I didn’t have that,” said artist Natalie Lanese. An educator and experienced painter, muralist, and exhibitor originally from Cleveland. She has lived in Toledo for more than five years, but had yet to coalesce her connections into something like a personal community.
Painter Jordan Buschur moved here in 2016 and found herself wanting of the same thing. “Natalie and I met through the Arts Commission [of Greater Toledo] in the fall of 2017.”
