TOLEDO (WTVG) — They’re full of energy and bursting with talent.
These teenagers are from all over, and all at the Toledo Repertoire Theatre to put on the musical “Hairspray.”
“I would put them up against a Broadway cast recording any day,” says Vicki Monhollen, the director of “Hairspray.” “Their vocals are awesome. Their dancing is great.”
The cast consists of actors ages 14 to 19. Those in charge of the Young Rep program auditioned 135 kids and got it down to 40.
Now, those cast members have the show down pat and they’re ready to play to a packed house.
“It’s great. Hairspray is an amazing experience for me. It’s actually one of my dream roles,” says Darla Arnett, 16, who attends Whitmer High School.
“Tracy Turnblad, she plays like a really happy girl. And it’s very fun,” adds Chloe Bender of Adrian. “She’s very energetic, and she just gets to be happy. And that’s me. I love being happy.”
“This is the hardest show I’ve ever worked on because I enjoy it so much,” says Luke Achinger, 18, of Sylvania, “Because the show’s great and the source material’s great. The people are fun. They’re great to hang out with and everything.”
Now these rising stars want you to see them bring the show to life in person.
Hairspray the musical, a Young Rep production, will be at the Toledo Repertoire Theatre on 10th Street Thursday through Sunday.
Tickets are $12.00 for adults, $8.00 for kids 13 and under.
