Rogers wins state championship, team to be honored with parade

COLUMBUS (WTVG) – The Rogers girls Varsity basketball team brought home a state championship, marking the first Ohio Division II state title for Toledo since 1981.

With a dominating performance in the second half outscoring Gilmour Academy by 17 the Rams win the Division II Championship 51-37. Zia Cooke leads all scorers with 33 points, she also hauls in 14 rebounds.

It is the third state champion for a City League school joining Libbey in 1981 and Woodward in 1976.

Toledo Public Schools honored the team, at the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday. Team members gathered before the meeting to be fitted for specialized sweat suits and championship rings.

The district also announced plan for a parade downtown. The celebration will be on Saturday, April 21. Details on the route and start time will be announced later.
