COLUMBUS (WTVG) – The Rogers girls Varsity basketball team brought home a state championship, marking the first Ohio Division II state title for Toledo since 1981.

With a dominating performance in the second half outscoring Gilmour Academy by 17 the Rams win the Division II Championship 51-37. Zia Cooke leads all scorers with 33 points, she also hauls in 14 rebounds.

It is the third state champion for a City League school joining Libbey in 1981 and Woodward in 1976.

A Toledo Public Schools spokesperson says the team will be honored at the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, March 27 at 5:30pm. Team members will gather before the meeting to be fitted for specialized sweat suits and championship rings.

TPS says future plans for large-scale community celebrations honoring the Rogers Rams will be announced at the board meeting.
