TOLEDO (WTVG) – It’s impossible to come downtown without noticing construction projects underway and many more changes are coming soon. Recent design plans were released to 13abc that show the city will revamp Summit Street.
Starting in April 2020, the main downtown street from Lafayette to Jackson is getting a makeover. City of Toledo spokesman Ignazio Messina says the deadline for it to be all done is the Solheim Cup coming to Toledo in 2021.
“With the opening ceremonies will being along Summit Street in Promenade Park, we want to make sure that Toledo puts its best foot forward for this amazing golf tournament,” said Messina.
The construction comes with a price tag of $7.5 million. The money is coming from Toledo’s capital budget.
The street will maintain two lanes of traffic both ways. Traffic lights will be improved and more parking will be added. More pedestrian friendly features are in the plan too, like brick crosswalks. Plus, the center medians will include more green features.
