TOLEDO, Ohio (13abc Action News) – They’ll line up by the thousands this Friday to donate to the annual “drive thru bash” and help local children.

The big event happens all day (5am-6:30pm) at four area locations. Volunteers will accept new toys at 13abc studios at 4247 Dorr Street. There will be free slices of pizza and entertainment for those driving through to drop off toys. Bands, choirs, miniature horses and of course Santa himself will be featured. University of Toledo is sending athletic teams including the men’s and women’s basketball teams. Mascots will be on hand for pictures.

Traffic will enter from Dorr Street and exit 13abc’s parking lot on Richards.

Locations will also be operating at 1045 N. Main Street in Bowling Green and 301 Center Street in Findlay. The Old Newsboys will operate a second Toledo location in front of JC Penney at Franklin Park Mall. She is just three years old but is confident Santa will visit her home later this month. Little Fiona and her mother brought dolls and games and toys to share with children who otherwise not have a Christmas this year.

The seventh annual 13abc Hope for the Holidays program is in partnership with the Salvation Army and U.S. Marine Corps Reserves (Tots for Tots).

“Last year, the Salvation Army of Northwest Ohio assisted 3,419 families through our Christmas assistance program” according to Salvation Army Operations Manager Elizabeth Schwandt. “6,689 children…woke up to a gift under the tree. This was made possible through the generosity of our friends and neighbors…bringing them hope for the holidays.”

Since the Hope for the Holidays project began in 2011, more than 113,000 toys have been distributed locally.

The campaign continues through December 15 with toy distribution taking place prior to Christmas. The Salvation Army conducted an earlier application process for those families who need assistance and more than 1,300 families applied.

13abc partners include Vito’s Pizza, Arnold’s Home Improvement, Dave White Chevrolet and Acura and Jim White Toyota and Gallon, Takacs, Boissoneault & Schaffer to present Hope for the Holidays.
