Jocko’s Ice Cream has served up sweet treats – and also lots of chili dogs topped with secret-recipe Boss Sauce – to customers since 2013. This is “my fifth summer,” said owner Jenny Gordon, for whom having a shop had long been a “bucket list” item.
She started out as a nursing student before embarking upon a 20-plus year career as a police officer, working primarily in the narcotics division with the city of Toledo in addition to a stint at the sheriff’s office. But the desire to own an ice cream stand was still one of Ms. Gordon’s dreams.
“It was something I always wanted to do,” she said.
When she was young, her father, known as Jocko, would give her money for doing chores and then tell her to go get some ice cream. “It was always a good memory,” she said. And she wanted to be a part of creating special memories for other kids, passing along the joy of life’s simple pleasures.
