TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – “Coming soon.”

It’s a phrase that’s been popping up more and more in the heart of Toledo.

“I think there’s a good vibe going on downtown,” Marge Watterworth, who lives in Toledo said.

From bars and restaurants to business headquarters, a lot of places want to set up shop downtown.

There are also unique additions to the urban setting, like Middlegrounds Metropark.

“This is a regular stop for both of us,” Watterworth said referencing her dog.

“A lot of development and nicer things,” Sandy Burton, a lifelong Toledoan added. “Streets getting fixed up and buildings being done.”

One of those buildings has been an empty shell for years. But right on schedule, the bulldozers are in place making way for the brand new Hilton Garden Inn/Homewood Suites hotel.

Many say it’s been a long time coming.

“It will bring more people in and give them places to stay for events and stuff,” Burton said.

“A lot of really good places are going in,” Watterworth told 13abc. “I’m all about supporting local businesses.”

Look no further than Balance Pan Asian Grille. It’s right across the street from the new hotel. The restaurant is almost ready for the public. Wednesday, employees were inside getting a feel for the space and working out any kinks ahead of the May 10th opening.

“Downtown is a great place to be right now,” Justin Paat, brand developer for Balance Grille, said. “There’s just so much going on and it’s something we want to be apart of.”

Right now, it would seem that momentum is on Toledo’s side. Many hope to watch it continue.

“I think it’s just a boom for everyone,” Watterworth said. “There’s a lot of good things happening.”

Construction on the new Hilton hotel is expected to be complete by the end of 2019.
