TOLEDO, Ohio (13abc Action News) – A lot of people enjoyed the great weather on this Labor Day weekend, and for some that meant spending time at the Adams Street Block Party. 13abc’s Michael Bratton has more on what’s helping make that an even bigger event.
The outdoor refreshment area on Adams has only been open for a little more than two months, and people are already enjoying the area as they city entertains the idea of adding another.
whether it’s for the music, the food or enjoying time with family and friends, Adams Street was crowded on Labor Day weekend for its annual block party. But this year’s event features something new, the city’s outdoor refreshment area.
“I’m enjoying it,” said Toledo resident Sam Rotroff. “It’s contained. Everybody’s behaving themselves. So it’s a great time.”
The area officially opened in June and so far people like it.
“I think it’s great,” said Casey Clark. “I think it’s going to bring people downtown and spend money and support local businesses, as well as their friends and people that work down here. It’s a great thing for the city.”
Six bars participate in the Adams Street outdoor refreshment area, and there’s some rules. People can only consume alcohol using designated cups in a certain area of the street.
And it’s so popular, city council could add another near Fifth Third Field in the Warehouse District.
“Being that we can have two areas for outdoor refreshment in Toledo—ideally we want to make this a downtown aspect. So Adams Street and downtown—that’s the perfect other location for it,” said Zach Lahey of the Village on Adams.
“I think the Warehouse District should absolutely support this same sort of thing,” said Toledo resident Dave Ayling. “It’s a good idea for not only the Warehouse District, but for all of Toledo. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it.”
And with a second outdoor refreshment area the hope is more people will come downtown to have fun.
